dReAmER or ReALiST???

Hallelujah Modern Family!!!

“There are Dreamers and there are Realists. You would think the dreamers would find the dreamers and the realists would find the realists, but more often than not the opposite is true. You see the dreamers need the realists to keep them from soaring to close to the sun. And the realists, weeeeell without the dreamers, they might not ever get off the ground.”

I really appreciate the writers of Modern Family. The humor, the reality, the lessons, the characters, the diversity, in my opinion a solid program. The above statement was mentioned by ‘Cameron’, the enthusiastic partner of ‘Mitchell’, the lawyer and level headed partner of the pair. Cameron has the stories he enjoys sharing over and over again, and Mitchell ‘the realist’ tends to roll his eyes, as he feels there is no way the story could be true.

This got me thinking…we are all one or the other and we are regularly surrounded by each. I contemplated, briefly, which one I personally was and which my near and dear were ~ dReAmER or ReALiST? I am at peace realizing there is a mixture in my life.

Whether you’re a realist or a dreamer, I strongly encourage you to engage in creating relationships with both…the creative, enthusiastic visionary may be in need of a little down to earth time and focus, or the person who tends to view things only as they truly are, may be in need of a little excitement and uncertainty.

It’s okay to be different, to not conform to the masses. I don’t believe we should criticize one or the other. It’s our differences that make things go round and I gladly accept I am a dreamer. I prefer to look on the bright side, not to say I don’t venture into the grey every once and awhile though, but this dreamer isn’t kept down for long, as I am blessed with a crew of dream encouragers. Some hang on the realists side the majority of the time, but I would be confident in saying they realize encouragement is a far greater feeling than stealing someone’s dream.

In closing, if you’re a realist, choose not to be a dream stealer and enjoy the moments! If you’re a dreamer, appreciate the realists and keep dreaming! Just like ‘Cameron’ mentioned, we need each other.

Here’s to High-Fiving the fantastic dReAmERs & ReALiSTs we surround ourselves with!

KENNEDY for City Council

I couldn’t pass up the chance to feature my little bro in my online journaling. Voting for this year’s (well I suppose the next 3 years) Kelowna city council has come to a close and this guy put forth an incredible effort. Bobby Kennedy, a 26 year old husband, father, brother, son, nephew, cousin, uncle, entrepreneur and friend to many (just to name a few of his roles;)! A local boy determined to move Kelowna forward and allow the youth to prosper, instead of flee. I love that fact that he just stepped up to the plate and was willing to take on the challenges to create change.

I have no doubt he opened the eyes of plenty, especially folks that had taken very little interest in politics prior to this election. Thru facebook alone, the amount of people who commented, shared links and videos, or gave shout outs regarding this election were something else.

Bobby received close to 2500 votes. 2449 people filled in the oval next to his name. Though not enough to be elected this time round, pretty freak’n impressive if you ask me! I love that Bobby was true form from start to finish and will continue being true to his values, beliefs and initiatives.

Be sure to stay tuned, as I am sure this is not the last we hear of Bobby Kennedy. He (& my other awesome brother Billy) can be found at The Bakery Board Shop and Lounge (189 Highway 33 East, Rutland BC). Be sure to swing by, skate, ride or walk in to say hi and see their ridiculously cool set up. Bobby would be thrilled to have the chance to chat about change, skateboarding, snowboarding, and creating good times for all to enjoy and prosper from.

Life is for living and this wise young man is definitely choosing to live it! 26 year old, husband, father, and successful business owner…Cheers to Bobby, thank you for taking a stance and choosing to engage – we are all so proud of you and honoured to have you a part of the Kennedy Clan!

“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present, are certain to miss the future.”

F oFF From Reality…

Do you ever find yourself in a mood you struggle to explain?

Every once and awhile I find myself in a bit of a funk. Nothing for any of you to be concerned about, just wanted to share that even me ‘miss positivity’ has down time. I think it is healthy (maybe just a way I personally justify) to be a little higher and a little lower every so often. As long as it is ‘so often’, not regularly or more often. I allow myself a day (or night) here and there to just ‘F off from reality’ (FOFR). To just sit back, chill, feel no guilt for not doing what I ‘should’ be doing. To check out from responding to FB, Text, Twitter, Email, asap. To not be bothered by the
dishes that sit dirty on the counter…to just check out and ignore life per-say.I have started to see a pattern that brings me to my ‘F off from reality’ times. If I had to choose one word, OVERWHELMED. I also have figured out how to limit my FOFR times and the two words I would choose would be, TIME MANAGEMENT. I enjoy so many things, I am a professional procrastinater, and a bit anal when it comes to ensuring things are done to my standards. A SCATTERED PERFECTIONIST. I believe I can do it all (and properly ;) , hence the sudden Holy F and I check out. I must say I find great enjoyment in almost everything I do or have access to. I am also aware that sometimes we need to lighten our load and just enjoy the moment.

Because of my realization as to what causes and how to limit my FOFR moments, I want to get my shite together and calendar plan, prioritize and commit. So I am putting this blog out into the universe, knowing I am an accountable person (just tend to be least accountable to myself), I hope this helps me stay committed to first managing my time better and committing to my plan…

So here’s to F’ing off tonight and a fantastically productive start tomorrow with Crazy Christie back in action, implementing better time management, and enjoying the moment! Mwah!

Adious Funk…in awhile crocodile ;)

SpOoKtAcULaR FUN for Shizzle!

What a Halloween! Such SpOoKtAcULaR FUN for sure :) Touring the streets of Yaletown, trick or treating with all the ‘tower’ kids of the neighborhood. A huge shout out to the business’ of the Yaletown area of downtown Vancouver for creating a trick-or-treat to remember. We weren’t sure what to expect this year, considering the majority of people in this area live in security tight high-rises. In our particular residence we only have access to our specific floor, so we actually considered returning to our old hood to go door to door.

We then saw notices around the neighbourhood advertising the ‘Yaletown Trick-or-Treat!’ We inquired with a few local families and they all raved about the experience. Our kids were then convinced to give our new area a go…330-530 the local business’ passed out candy to kids of all ages. The streets were buzzing with cute, creepy, crazy, and creative costumes! Parents, infants, school age kids, grandparents, daycares, you name it were filing up and down the brick layed walkways, the alley ways, in and out of shops. Some store fronts went all out with decorating, most employees/owners even put in solid efforts when it came to costumes – we were very impressed. There was a live band making their way thru the streets, the Roundhouse Community Centre put on quite the show, and the streets were pretty calm come dark.

Our kidlets ran into some friends along the way, they were stoked the amount of candy they scored, and were pretty pleased with the family dinner at Cactus Club that we enjoyed before calling it a night with a bubble bath before bed. Yaletown, you outdid yourself. Thank you to everyone for making our first Halloween in the city a very cool experience and one we are thrilled to take part in again next year!

Hope you and yours enjoyed a SpOoKtAcULaR Halloween 2011!
